What single-visit care means
The canal preparation and filling are completed during one treatment visit when suitable. An examination, further review or a separate final restoration may still be required, so a single-visit root canal is not necessarily a one-appointment overall care plan.
Potential benefits
Fewer visits may be convenient and can reduce repeated interruptions to daily routines. The appointment may be longer. Your dentist weighs these practical benefits against the condition of the tooth and the treatment required.
What to expect
Assessment and imaging come first. Anaesthesia and isolation are followed by access, cleaning, shaping and disinfection. When appropriate, the canals are filled and sealed in that session, with a plan to restore and protect the tooth.
After treatment
Follow the clinician’s advice and arrange the final restoration if it has not been completed. Avoid overloading a tooth with a temporary repair. Attend follow-up appointments and contact the clinic about worsening symptoms.
YOUR QUESTIONS, EXPLAINED
Before your visit.
Can every root canal be done in one visit?
No. The choice depends on diagnosis, complexity and other clinical factors. Your clinician will explain the proposed schedule.
Does one visit mean no crown is needed?
No. The restoration is a separate decision based on remaining tooth structure and function.
What happens at my consultation?
Bring your medical history, current medicines and any previous dental records. The clinician examines your mouth and recommends tests or imaging when needed. You can discuss the proposed care, alternatives, timing, costs and follow-up before making a decision.

Make an informed choice.
Use this guide to prepare questions for a dental consultation. Your diagnosis, treatment suitability, number of visits and estimate depend on an individual examination. Tell the team about previous treatment, medical conditions and any concerns about comfort.
