Veneer options
Ceramic or porcelain veneers and composite approaches have different preparation, appearance, repair and maintenance considerations. Whitening, bonding or orthodontics may meet your goals with less preparation in some cases.
What veneers can change
Veneers can improve selected surface and shape concerns. They do not treat underlying decay or gum disease and are not a substitute for correcting every bite problem. An examination checks what is achievable for your teeth.
Planning and fitting
The dentist discusses goals and takes records. Preparation and a scan or impression may follow; some cases use temporary veneers. The finished restorations are checked for shade, proportion, fit and bite before bonding.
Looking after veneers
Brush and clean between teeth, maintain healthy gums and attend reviews. Avoid using teeth as tools. Tell your dentist about clenching or grinding, since a protective appliance may be appropriate. Ask about future repair or replacement before starting.
YOUR QUESTIONS, EXPLAINED
Before your visit.
Are veneers reversible?
Many ceramic veneer treatments remove enamel and are not reversible. Your dentist should explain the preparation involved in your plan.
Can veneers replace orthodontics?
They change the visible surface, rather than moving tooth roots. Orthodontic care may be better for alignment or bite concerns.
What happens at my consultation?
Bring your medical history, current medicines and any previous dental records. The clinician examines your mouth and recommends tests or imaging when needed. You can discuss the proposed care, alternatives, timing, costs and follow-up before making a decision.

Make an informed choice.
Use this guide to prepare questions for a dental consultation. Your diagnosis, treatment suitability, number of visits and estimate depend on an individual examination. Tell the team about previous treatment, medical conditions and any concerns about comfort.
