Dental bonding

Small chips, uneven edges and spaces can change how a smile feels. Dental bonding uses tooth-coloured composite resin to reshape selected areas of a tooth. At All Care, the first step is to understand the change you want and check that the tooth and gums are healthy.

01

What is dental bonding?

A dentist applies a shade-matched resin to the tooth, shapes it and hardens it with a curing light. The surface is then finished and polished. Bonding may be used for small chips, minor gaps, surface irregularities or selected discoloured areas.

02

Why consider bonding?

Composite can often be added conservatively, keeping preparation limited. It can be repaired if damaged, and its colour can be chosen to blend with neighbouring teeth. It is less resistant to staining and wear than some ceramic restorations, so suitability matters.

03

The bonding process

Your dentist examines your bite and the area to be repaired, selects a shade and prepares the surface. Resin is placed in layers, shaped and cured. The final check considers the appearance, smoothness and how the teeth meet. The number of visits depends on the work required.

04

Aftercare and maintenance

Brush and clean between teeth, and attend the reviews recommended for you. Avoid using teeth to open packaging or bite pens. Tell your dentist about grinding or clenching. Return for assessment if the bonded area chips, feels sharp or changes the bite.

YOUR QUESTIONS, EXPLAINED

Before your visit.

Can bonding close every gap?

No. Tooth size, alignment, gum health and the size of the space affect the choice. Aligners, veneers or another approach may be more suitable.

How long does it last?

The area treated, bite, habits and maintenance influence its lifespan. Ask about the likely upkeep and repair options for your case.

What happens at my consultation?

Bring your medical history, current medicines and any previous dental records. The clinician examines your mouth and recommends tests or imaging when needed. You can discuss the proposed care, alternatives, timing, costs and follow-up before making a decision.
