What rotary instruments do
Specially designed files help shape the canal system. They can work alongside hand instruments and other techniques. Instrument selection takes the canal anatomy and condition of the tooth into account.
Why the technique is used
Controlled instrumentation can support efficient canal preparation. Its value depends on careful assessment and use; the technique alone does not guarantee a faster appointment or a successful result.
What happens during care
After examination and anaesthesia as appropriate, the tooth is isolated and canals are accessed. Instruments and irrigants are used to prepare and clean them. The canals are filled and sealed before the tooth receives its planned restoration.
Discussing your treatment
Ask which techniques are recommended and why, how many visits are expected and what restoration will be needed. Report concerns about pain, previous treatment or anxiety so the clinician can plan appropriate support.
YOUR QUESTIONS, EXPLAINED
Before your visit.
Is rotary endodontics a separate treatment?
It is an instrumentation method used within root canal care, rather than a different diagnosis or guaranteed outcome.
Can it be used for every tooth?
The clinician chooses instruments and techniques based on the tooth’s anatomy, condition and treatment requirements.
What happens at my consultation?
Bring your medical history, current medicines and any previous dental records. The clinician examines your mouth and recommends tests or imaging when needed. You can discuss the proposed care, alternatives, timing, costs and follow-up before making a decision.

Make an informed choice.
Use this guide to prepare questions for a dental consultation. Your diagnosis, treatment suitability, number of visits and estimate depend on an individual examination. Tell the team about previous treatment, medical conditions and any concerns about comfort.
